State of Emergency Declared in British Columbia

As wildfires throughout British Columbia, specifically in the interior regions, continue to burn out of control, the BC provincial government has declared a state of emergency.

‘’Our first priority during this period of extreme wildfire activity in the interior has been to ensure the safety of all those directly impacted,’’ Christy Clark, Premier of BC, said. ‘’This included declaring a provincial state of emergency so that all possible tools are available to fight the fires and protect families and communities.’’

3 Things to Do When Evacuated by Disaster

  1. Make sure you and your loved ones are safe.

Above any property or possession, making sure you, your family and those close to you are safe should be priority #1.

  1. Keep all your receipts.

From an insurance perspective, if you’re displaced from your home, your insurer will need proof of your additional living expenses, in case you need to activate your home or tenant policy.

You should keep all receipts, including: food, shelter, fuel/transport.

To find out exactly what your policy covers, you should speak with your broker or insurer.

  1. Start your home insurance claim.

Even if you’re not sure the full extent of the damage to your property and possessions, don’t delay getting started with your claim.
